Bashkaran“Our achievements is in the field, where living conditions of people are visibly improved, not in the office”

Bashkaran, TdH-NL Office and Project Administrator

Q: Bashkar, can you explain your work at TdH NL here in the MEC?

I am doing the administration work for our TdH NL office here and for the projects. So, I am responsible for finance & account, systems and reporting, but as well for making sure that our partner organizations from the supported projects are fulfilling the requirements when it comes to reporting back on the utilization of the funds. We want to see the results of the projects, not only with nice stories but as well with facts and figures! What is important to us is to see the impact on people’s living conditions.

Q: With your work, you help the poorest people among the poor, why did you take this decision?

In the place where I was born, there was a slum and I am coming myself from an underprivileged environment where not enough money was there to study. Already then, I was involved in youth programs to find ways to improve people’s lives. But doing this, I help as well friends and relatives. In 1993, I joined TdH NL office. From the start, I was involved in the planning, purchasing, construction and general administration of the MEC. It is joyful to do such a work, even though sometimes I would like to see more professionalism in the field.

Q: Which change would you like to see to improve the current state?

Social workers in the partner NGO’s should work harder in becoming more result-oriented. The living conditions of the people should be clearly improved and we have to be able to demonstrate this clearly. As well, I wish things could go faster sometimes, there is so much to do. Small steps in a steady progression should allow us to go very far.

Q: What is needed for people to work for such an organization?

You need sincerity and passion for your work. One needs to realize that it is very intensive as you have to go to projects and dedicate your life to this, so you need to have a stable family environment that accepts and understands your commitment and your engagement for this cause !
